This just in from Fludey: “Lucky 13. Yes, the 13th year of Ballina’s Fair Go is set to skate on October 20th. Originally held in the Ballina Fair Car Park in 2000, local skaters wanted to emphasize the lack of skateparks in the region and demonstrate the need for purpose built facilities. Since then Ballina got its ‘Missingham’ skatepark, which has been the literal foundation for what is the pinnacle competition in the Northern Rivers skateboarding world: Fair Go.
It was my first Fair Go last year. I had a great time skating with the likes of Standley, Dandy, Kizza, Gemzik, Schubert, Morrison, Tooza, Mutu and Dawesy. The Bowl Jam was off the hook and an epic storm rolled in after the festivities were complete which was the icing on the cake. Early this year, I again found myself in Ballina, this time in the Ballina Shire Council with Northern Rivers Hub Manager Dylan McNamara offering regular skateboarding workshops. Ballina was keen, so much so they wanted Fair Go, which had been predominately run by a committed volunteer group for a dozen years, to be part of the Northern Rivers Hub calendar.
So here we are, two weeks out of what is the next phase in the Fair Go tradition. Queensland heads, remember you lose an hour coming down to New South Wales this time of the year, and for all you Sponsored heads, make sure your at the park for 1.30pm!”
